Halloween goodies

Here's Charlotte all dressed up to go to our church's Reformation Celebration on Wednesday night. She had a pretty bad cough, so we didn't stay very long...just long enough to see some friends in costume. I am sad to report that she did not like the hair very much. Oh well.

Then, on Thursday, a Halloween box from Grandma and Papa came! How exciting! The top picture is Charlotte's cheesy smile, and the bottom one is her looking through the book that Grandma recorded for her.

In other news, it's currently sleeting here (boo!) and Baby #2 has about 6 weeks left to cook...I wonder what it is. :)

10 Things Thursday

I like knowing what other people are up to during their days...that's part of the fun of blogs. So, here are 10 things on my Thursday to-do list. What are you up to today?

  1. Clean off my desk at school. I've been avoiding this for about a day and a half.

  2. Put a roast on for dinner. (CHECK! Already done!)

  3. Call the vet to renew Simon's seizure meds. (CHECK!)

  4. Get to the vet to pick up Simon's seizure meds. (questionable whether this will happen...)

  5. Pick out and purchase some of Charlotte's school pictures for Christmas gifts. (I hope they're good...)

  6. Get into the Word so that God can combat my tendency toward craziness.

  7. Run to the store and buy some produce since all of ours went dead at the same time. I really feel like peanut butter and celery...isn't that random? Adam also needs food coloring and shaving cream for an experiment at school....

  8. Make a list for the trip to the store so I don't forget anything. :)

  9. Try to sit down most of the day so that my feet aren't balloons by 8:00 tonight.

  10. End the day in a better mood than I began far, that's right on track to happen.

I hope you have a good day today. Feel free to share what you're doing or avoiding, and soli Deo gloria.

Physical Limitations

It is no great secret that this pregnancy has kicked my butt significantly more than my first one. It's just been physically harder this time, and that has made everything in life all that much harder. Letting emotions slip, allowing myself to feel overwhelmed and inadequate, panicking about things that are commonplace; all of these things come easier when I feel physically weak.

But in this, here is something that I know: I know that I have physical limitaitons for a reason. God created us as finite beings with limits so that we would depend on Him. In this time, right now, He's upping the ante a little with me. I must depend on Him or I will wear myself out. I must focus on my glorious Lord and Savior and not on the work I feel too exhausted to do, both at school and at home. My comfort and joy must be rooted in Christ because everything else is fallible, especially me right now. That is the biggest challenge - I can't just do it on my own.

Don't fight the physical limitations that the Lord has given you. There is only so much you can do, but there is nothing He can't do. Soli Deo Gloria.

The Pumpkin Patch

Today, I did something totally frivolous, selfish and indulgent: I took a personal day to go to the pumpkin patch with Charlotte's daycare. It was, by far, one of the best things I have done since school started. Not only did I need a day off from the daily routine, be it school days or jam-packed weekends, but the day was perfect for a morning at the farm with 50 other kids and my darling daughter.

Charlotte loved everything about the trip. She got to ride the big school bus there, and thought that was the greatest thing ever. She loved the wagon ride to the pumpkin patch, picking out her pumpkin and riding back to the farm. She loved playing in the corn, jumping on the inflatable trampoline, riding the cow train and seeing the animals. She loved lunch and getting to jump again before riding the big bus back to school. And I think she loved seeing me come into school and pick her up so that she could nap in her own bed. :) It was a wonderful day, and I feel so rejuvinated for having taken the day off to go.

On the wagon ride to pick out our pumpkins...

Playing in the corn...not quite as much fun as last year, but definitely still fun.

Jumping on the inflatable trampoline/bag...

Ready to ride the cow train...

Looking at the pigs....

...and the chickens....

Waiting for lunch...

So there you go. Do something selfish and indulgent soon; it might be just what you need is this busy, sometimes overwhelming season. Soli Deo Gloria.

And September comes and goes with one sad blog post. I know, y'all, and I'm sorry. Pregnancy has really thrown off my groove. Oh well. One of my goals is to be easy on myself about it (not just not blogging, but everything nonessential) and that includes not bemoaning you about it either. I'm honestly just doing what I can; I know that's enough for you all.

I did, though, as I promised my mother, take a couple pictures this weekend to post, as well as a video. Pictures are harder now as Charlotte is almost three: she sees the camera and immediately becomes a different child because I am taking her picture. I have no idea where she got that from. Anyway, I took a couple pictures of her yesterday as we were hanging around the house. This first one is her playing with all of her food at her table. Not really cooking, just playing with her play food.

And then this one is a shot of her and Daddy as they were watching football on the computer upstairs. Charlotte's becoming quite the football fan, and of course, we are teaching her all the appropriate allegiances...the 5-0 Illini, for example. :)

This video is what it is, not really all that special, but something. It is Charlotte's version of a well-known song at breakfast...see if you can guess what it is.

P.S. There's a trip to the pumpkin patch this week - stay tuned for those pictures.
