Seriously?

Summer So Far...

During the summer, I find myself amazed that I am able to accomplish anything during the school year; we barely get anything done when we're not working! Here are some pictures of what we've been up to for the past couple days.

Vivian's birthday party was on Saturday. In our family, this party is sort of an epic summer kickoff - Lisa always throws an amazing bash. Charlotte, unfortunately, was sort of a grouch for most of it, and even when we borrowed one of Vivi's bathing suits, didn't want anything to do with the kiddie pools or sprinklers that the other kids were playing in. She just wanted to swing. Oh well.
I will say that after pizza arrived, she perked up quite a bit. That's my girl.

Here is Charlotte posing for her Father's Day picture. The children sang at church in front of the church, and Charlotte opted to sit with one of her teachers instead. Perhaps her destiny is not to be a performer. That's okay.

I don't know what this picture is....breakfast, obviously, on a Sunday morning because we're eating cinammon rolls. I don't know...

In other news, Vacation Bible School is this week, meaning we eat dinner at church and get home late every night. Our VBS this year is really cool; it's called "Armor Up," and it's all about the armor that believers wear. Our church started putting together its own VBS last year, and this one is already so much better; the songs are original, the games, the lessons, everything is gospel-based (which, listen, is not always a given with VBSs).

Charlotte started swimming lessons this week also, and that has been going MUCH better than expected. Pictures to come, I'm sure.

Also starting this week is potty training. I refuse to be a mother who blogs about potty training any more than to say that we are working on it. As an outside observer, that is all you need to know.

And lastly (phew!), we are heading over to UVA today for a 6 month checkup for Charlotte's feet. The quick recap is that Charlotte was born with club feet, still sleeps in braces that hold her feet correctly, and has to be checked out twice a year. It's not a big deal, and usually the appointment itself only takes about five minutes since we listen to the doctors and do what we're supposed to do. If we need to get bigger braces, which we usually do, that's what takes awhile. So that's going on today, and we're all pretty excited about a little road trip after swimming lessons.

And that's it right now, friends. We love summer vacation in our house, and there are many more updates to come. Soli Deo Gloria!!

To Do

  1. Drop Charlotte off at daycare (which she's totally excited about).

  2. Go to my school with Adam and pack up my classroom. Ugh.

  3. Go out to lunch with him without Charlotte.

  4. Go pick up Charlotte's new-to-us little girl furniture!! Yay!! I will absolutely post pictures of this after we pick it up.

Phew, what a day!

Do you remember...

...this song from your childhood? Because I certainly do not. :)

We get that it's a turtle, and our favorite part is that he gets put in the bathtub and "drinks up all the water, and eats up all the soap." After that, alas, we are not sure what happens to him. Maybe you can figure it out.

Still recovering...

I know that scientifically speaking, you can't "catch up" on sleep. However, I have slept a TON so far this weekend, and I still feel tired, which leads me to believe that my body is, probably a little, catching up on sleep. Adam says that he's not surprised; that we were so amped up in the past two weeks trying to get through the end of the year, that it's no wonder it caught up with me. All I know is that today after church, I took an hour nap and yesterday afternoon, I took two naps during the afternoon, totaling an hour and a half. That's tired.

Of course graduation went well. It was FAST: we graduated 271 kids in an hour and fifteen minutes with 6 student speeches. I'm thrilled that I don't have to go through this again next year, and it's still sinking in that this school year is over. I really don't remember getting through the last nine weeks, being exhausted, nauseous and pregnant through it all, and now I am extremely excited for it to be summer.

Plans this summer? Everyone takes beach trips here, and we're not really beach trip people. Not that we couldn't be....I'm sure we could definitely become people who went to the beach every year. But instead, right now, we are at a season in our lives where we go visit family in Ohio over the summer. And that is what we will do in July, go visit family. Have the grandparents see and spoil Charlotte.

Teachers often make summer resolutions the way that normal people make New Year's resolutions. Things we will do or not do to be better people at the start of next school year. I don't have my summer resolutions made yet, but really the most important one right now is digging out of all the clutter that has accumulated in the house in the past month. There is junk everywhere....laundry, mail, dishes, stuff from school, and that is the first priority.

Here's a short video of Charlotte playing this afternoon. Nothing super special, just cute.

Here's another picture of her playing...you can't see to lotion at her side, but she's putting lotion on baby Snow White. Since we put lotion on her so much.

Sleep well, and soli deo gloria.

Rounding the last corner

Tonight, I brought dinner home at 6:10. Today is the longest day of my year because of planning for graduation. Adam pulled in with Charlotte right after me. We watched Rapunzel and ate. Here is Charlotte eating a cookie for dessert. I feel bad for the lack of pictures, so I felt I owed you something.

Graduation is Friday and it cannot come soon enough. I am exhausted and worn out, which sound like the same things but aren't. Hopefully starting next week, my thoughts won't be as unilateral as they have been for a while. Til then...
